Algiers conference review Palestinian captives issue
2010/12/06
A conference was held in Algeria on the status of captives languishing in the Israeli occupation jails with delegations from nearly 55 countries on attendance.

A number of international figures were also on attendance, including former US Justice Minister Ramsey Clark, Stanly Cohen, a Jewish lawyer who supports Palestinian rights, former Malaysian prime minister Mahather Mohammed, former Sudanese president Abdul Rahman Suwar Al-Dhahab, and George Galloway, former British MP and human rights campaigner.

A Palestinian delegation from Gaza was also on attendance with an agenda to internationalize the issue of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

In the West Bank, the Israeli occupation authorities barred Palestinian human rights activist Fuad Al-Khafash, who was member of the committee, to leave for Algeria to attend the conference although he has his visa and plane ticket in addition to the official invitation he received from the conference organizers to speak at the conference.

The committee considered the banning of Khafsh from leaving to the conference as a continuation of the Israeli crimes against the captives and an exposed attempt to silence any voice speaking about their issue.
