In spite of an Israeli military closure of the area, Palestinian and
international activists succeeded Monday in reaching Khirbet Makhoul
Bedouin dwelling in the Northern Jordan Valley and helped the residents
rebuild their homes the Israeli army had previously destroyed.
Witnesses said the activists rebuilt the homes from the remains of the homes the army had earlier destroyed. They said the activists were able to reach the area in spite of the roadblocks the army had set up on roads leading to the dwelling and in spite of the presence of soldiers in the dwelling. This is the fifth time activists rebuild the dwelling after each time the soldiers have demolished it. Palestinians accuse Israel of trying to evacuate the Jordan Valley, which makes up 40 percent of the West Bank, from its Palestinian residents and replace them with Israeli settlers in order to take it over. |
